Client conversations

Talk with a client in a matter chat - with internal notes for your team, and Squire™'s answers kept private until you choose to pass one on.

Hold the conversation with your client where the matter already lives. Share a matter chat with the people outside your firm who need to be in it, keep talking to your own team in the same thread, and use Squire™ as you normally would - your client only ever sees what you send them.

In a matter chat shared with a client, a lawyer asks Squire an internal question, then shares Squire's answer with the client after adding a line of their own; the client's view shows only their own message and the lawyer's reply.

How it works

  1. 1

    Share the chat

Open a chat on the matter and click Share externally in its header. Invite each person by email, say who they are - client, their counsel, counterparty, expert - whether they can reply or only read, and when their access ends. Give the conversation the title they will see.

  2. 2

Choose who each message is for

Send a message to Everyone, or post an Internal note only your team can see. When everyone invited is on your side - the client or their counsel - you start on Everyone; with the other side, an expert or anyone whose role isn't set, you start on an internal note and switch when you mean to reach them. Each person sees what was sent to everyone from the moment they were invited - nothing earlier.

  3. 3

Ask Squire, then decide what to send

Mention @Squire as usual. Its answers stay with your team. To pass one on, choose Share with guests - it opens in your message box so you can check and edit it, and it goes out under your name.

  4. 4

    Keep what they tell you

Use Save to matter on a client's message to add it to the matter's knowledge as their statement. Put the matter brief's open questions to them with Ask an open question, and their reply is filed as the answer.

Your client sees

  • Messages your team sends to everyone, from when they were invited
  • Files attached to those messages
  • Who else outside your firm is in the conversation
  • A notification when you reply - by email too, without the message itself

Your client never sees

  • Your team's internal notes
  • Squire's answers, unless you pass one on
  • Anything in the chat from before they were invited
  • Squire™ AI - nothing they write makes it respond

Good to know

  • Sharing a matter does not share its chats. Each conversation is shared on its own, so your team's research chats stay private.
  • If a counterparty would join a chat that includes your client, Squire warns you before you send the invitation.
  • What a client says is saved as their statement, not as established fact - the matter brief reports it that way.
  • Guests can't upload files into a chat yet.
